how do I monetize that and I want to teach
younger people as well to do it and code and things like that and provide jobs because I’m good at what
I do as far as designing. But how do I– – So let’s start,
first thing’s first, before you start teaching
other people how to do it, we need you to be ridiculously
successful so that you can afford to teach people to do it
otherwise you’re gonna charge them too much to teach them
to do it and then it’ll break. Got it?
– [Jayson] Yes. – So let’s start with this,
you want to build websites in a specific niche or just in
general you know that everybody in the world needs a website and that the
long tail of niche stuff, it’s a lot easier to get Joe The
Plumber to build his website than Pepsi. Is that
what you’re saying? – [Jayson] Yes.
– Good. So how much do you want
to charge to build somebody’s website that’s a small business or an entrepreneur
or an influencer? What’s a nice range? – [Jayson] Nice range is
about $300-400 but I’d like a subscription base
like $25 a month. In Atlanta, I lived
in Atlanta for a while, a lot of barber shops. – And so, are you, so
you want to do the whole, I’ll charge you $500 to
build your website and then $25 a month maintenance
recurring so you have recurring revenue in
case they need you and that’s how you scale it, right? – [Jayson] Yes.
– Okay. So are you building on top
of WordPress and Squarespace and things of that
nature and Shopify, that’s why you’re able to– – [Jayson] Yeah.
– Great. My man, I’m gonna give you a
piece of advice that is 100% and the only reason you won’t be
successful is ’cause you’re not hungry enough
and you’re too lazy. You ready?
– [Jayson] Yes. – Good. I want you
to go to Instagram. Are you watching
me on Instagram? – [Jayson] Yes, I am.
– Good. I want you to stop
watching me on Instagram, I want you to start this process
and I want you to do it for five to seven hours a day.
You ready? – [Jayson] Yes. – I want you to
search a hashtag, I want you to go
to the search up top, I want you to
search grocery store, local butcher, plumber. When you search it,
there’ll be a hashtag. And then I want you to spend 25
minutes hitting every picture that has the hashtag plumber
and see if it’s the account of a plumbing company or a plumber
who has a small business. I want you to then click the
URL that is linked that person’s account and look
at their website. If they have a good website,
leave him alone. If their website is shit, I want
you to go back into Instagram and hit the top right corner
triple buttons on that person’s profile and send
them a message and say, “Yo, this is me. “I’m the best at small
business website design. “You’re website is not on point. “I’ve got a thing
that’s $500 up front, “$25 a month and you will crush
it and you will return on that “investment in one day,
let alone one year because your “website will be stronger that
you’re linked to on Instagram “and you’ll convert better.” And I want you to do that for
five to seven hours every single day which means that you’ll
message between 70 and 250 people a day and you
will do a lot of business. – [Jayson] Man, thank you.

of your work and I am so grateful for all of the value that you bring all of us and I appreciate you
taking my question. As a future business owner,
I’ll be deploying a lot of your strategies to
advertise for my business. My question for you is which
platform do you spend most of your time on these days? Thanks for answering. – Which platform? I mean I think, what’s his name? – [Dunk] Zach. – Zach, first of all,
thanks for the love. Zach, I think
the plot, you know, I think it’s
running the gamut. Instagram, Snapchat
I still continue use Twitter. I don’t think people understand
like Twitter is still the one place to have unbelievable
engagement and I truly believe so much of my world is
predicated on engagement. That being said, Snapchat’s
the place where when I actually reply, I just get so many god
damn, you know, people go crazy. It’s funny, I love the way the
UI and UX of Twitter, I can just get to so many more people than
all like the pressing waiting. The speed in which Snapchat
engagement works doesn’t allow me to do as many as I’d like to
which is disappointing because the upside of engaging on somebody’s
Snapchat is holy shit. Whereas on Twitter
it’s like thanks and that’s a very big
different reaction. I would say
Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram. That’s where I’m spending most
my time and I think this is a great opportunity for me to
answer a question so many have been asking which is Instagram
Stories or Snapchat Stories? The answer is both. All four of those platforms have
enormous attention for me and so I continue to focus on
them and engage and create and pound and work with my team on our
strategies and so all four platforms are extremely
important to me as the pillar and foundations and so there’s not one that is you
know is dominating. I’m sure if I looked at my time
of usage, one is greater than the other depending on how
I use them but in my mind from a strategy standpoint all four are
extremely important and I think for most of you all four
of those and including the LinkedIn’s of the world and Periscope and the
Facebook Lives scenario. I mean there’s just so much opportunity for us
to story tell and grind. I just think people need to put
in the work and I think they all bring different value for
different reasons and that’s why I use them. Facebook has
ungodly reach potential. Nothing is remotely close
to Facebook’s capability to replicate a
television like platform. Instagram is just depth of attention especially
with stories now. It’s done extremely well just a
month ago or eight weeks ago I was talking about being concerned of where
Instagram plays. I think the Stories
feature was a monstrous move. Snapchat for the 16 to 25 to 28-year-old demo is the game and super important for so
many of us out there. And Twitter is the only place
where you can listen at scale and engage and
create that conversation. I mean I don’t know where
everybody was last night during the debate but I have a funny
feeling it wasn’t Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat and so
that is the water cooler of our society and there’s a
lot of opportunity there. May be for not as much talking
but is the one place I would listen over any other platform.

here in Los Angeles. Recently, you connected
with Chase Jarvis, and you humbly bragged that you
were one of the first people to say that Vine is a great
place for filmmakers to grow an audience. – Just like if I was a
filmmaker or video person, I’d be very much paying
attention to Vine, and trying to figure out
how to make six second micro-videos that bring
awareness to me, that leads me to gateway
you to my YouTube, which led to you to
gateway me, to hiring me. It’s just this evolution
of opportunity. – It’s now 2016. Is Vine still the best platform, or is there something different
that filmmakers like myself should be looking at?
Thanks Gary. I’ll see you and
the Jets in week four. – Yeah, I mean, look, it’s… – Richard. – Thanks, Richard. I’m not looking forward
to the Seahawks week four, though the Seahawks didn’t
look so good yesterday, and now Russell looks hurt. Might not play next game,
but they won a Superbowl, so it’s like over. Richard, you know, obviously Vine had its
moment of attention. That’s also one
of the reasons, you know, one of the fun things about
creating video at scale, as I have three
screens on my, right now, it’d be so fun to look
at me doing this in 1996, seven, eight, nine, 2000, 2001. Email, or Google AdWords. There’s a lot of
predictions that are right. There’s also things that were
100% right that get outdated. That attention
of that demo on Vine is clearly right now on
Instagram stories, and Snapchat stories. So, I think those two
places completely dominate. I also think there’s some
kind of old school places, and here’s a funny
old school places, I’m a big fan of people
getting into some of these Facebook communities,
right, these private pages. You know, with other
filmmakers or Hollywood types or what have you. Facebook groups is an interesting little hack. I think it’s just all work. Look, it’s all very basic. I always layer the current
state of the market on top of my
general thesis, which is, where’s the
attention of the people that you’re trying to reach, and then, how do you figure
out to be creative on it. And so, obviously, if everybody’s
listening to SoundCloud, but you can’t be creative in
audio, you’re not gonna be as successful as you are in
creating long-form video. Long-form video of
great quality on Vimeo is gonna be a different
opportunity for some of the filmmaker characters here,
than for somebody like me who, why do you think I’ve done well? I do well in 30, 70, 90
second quick thoughts, quick, I don’t know if you
noticed this Larry King, let’s link that up,
actually, right here, this Larry King, actually,
throw a little box up here showing it. This Larry King interview I did, it’s so funny how some
of my smartest friends have been hitting
me up privately, of how great of a format that is when it’s quick
and witty and fast. That’s what I’m good at. So, you’ve gotta find the
medium that you’re good at. And so, if you’re a filmmaker, there’s the
Steven Spielberg filmmaker, and then there’s the filmmaker
that’s emerging today that understands how
to make it in a Vimeo, in a YouTube,
in an Instagram story. Do you know how much storytelling
capabilities there are in Snapchat and
Instagram stories? There’s so much,
but who’s great at it, and it’s a totally
different skillset than making a 22 minute sitcom. So, the attention
is very obvious. It’s on Instagram, it’s on
Snapchat, it’s on Facebook. It’s there, right? It’s on YouTube, it’s on Vimeo, but which one of those
five, as a filmmaker, can you really play in, and
what’s the different versions, because there’s a very big
difference between making a 41 minute film on Vimeo,
and making a great 7 minute Instagram story

of Telus Properties. For context, we are the fastest
growing real estate brokerage in California with about 450 agents
and 20 offices and my question to Gary is just this how can a
forward thinking brokerage like ours build a brand on Facebook and Instagram that all our agents can leverage to build
their own individual platforms? Thank you, Gary. – So I’ll jump into the
first one, you can add Frederik because I’ve given a lot of
speeches at RE/MAX and Keller Williams and all these
organizations and when they’re at that level with a lot of
offices they’re always trying to think about how they
empower their agents. This is a once in a generation
agent that comes along and has that charisma level, gets the
opportunity be on television and then has that… Do you like that
once in an generation? – I’m listening. Go on. – That’s not going to
happen for everybody. So, I think one of the biggest
ways that a company can enable their agents and we see this
insurance, I see this in fast food where people are
franchisees is to create content at scale in a hub that people
that have access to, can pull from it and then DJ the content. So there’s some great platforms
like Percolate or you can build something internally or you
could do an email blast but what I would do as your company is I
was invest in video and I would invest in photography, produce
content, give them assets and then training. I think one of the best things
that I’ve seen from people that have agents I’ve seen this in
insurance is they brought in the forward thinkers and put them in
front of their users on a closed platform, live streams, Q&As,
consulting opportunities it’s about education and assets. And that’s what you want to
empower so it is an investment at the top level instead of
telling them or trying to get them to do it force them to get
there by overwhelming them with value from the highest levels. – Wow, that’s good.
That’s good. – Like that?
– It’s powerful. Yeah. My point of view on social
media has always been to be as personal as possible. I think that the big, to answer
his question, the big challenge for real estate companies, any
kind of company is that they upload photos only
of their apartments or I always give this
example United Airlines, and I like United Airlines,
I travel with them a lot but they have
88,000 employees but only 60,000-something
followers on Instagram. They can’t even get their own
employees to follow them because they upload photos
of the airplanes. – That’s right. – So if you make it personal–
– Or bring value value. – Hmmm? – Or bring value for example
when you’re an airline if you actually put out content
around how to make people travel better, save money when
they travel, skip lines if you actually brought
utilitarian value– – But still for social media
there’s not that many successful accounts. If United Airlines posted photos
of people on airports meeting, crying, loving, hugging for
using their vehicles to meet after many years and writing
long personal emotional text then it could be beautiful, powerful Instagram
accounts in the world, right? And then they could
sell tickets indirectly. – See that right behind you? It’s a book I wrote a couple
of years ago called “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook”. – I’m gonna get it. – Well, I’ll give it to you but
it’s like what you’re describing which is put out content
that’s valuable to them. – Yeah. – Jab, jab, jab, build up equity and then you can ask
for a transaction. – Yes, exactly. – I have something like
600-something-thousand followers, I would say 10 to
20% of my business comes from Instagram. Honestly.
– I believe it. – I launched entire buildings
from it but it’s because I also write emotional texts and people
make fun of me because I’m too emotional.
– Yes. – I’m a person and I’m an
emotional person and then when I finally upload something
that’s real estate related there’s more stickiness to it.
People pay attention. – May I ask you a question? My career, different from yours,
came from doing a wine show on YouTube in the mid-2000’s.
Yes. There was a point where I was
like wow and I was known as crazy in the wine world, do you
feel like you’ve become a more extreme version of your natural
being because of this character. I always wonder,
“Have I changed?” Do you feel like you’re exactly
who you were five years ago or do you think you’re a more
extremed momentum version of yourself because of
what’s happened? – I know because I have the
evidence ’cause I’ve done five seasons, last six years. I’m actually, I was never
playing a character because they don’t tell us what to do. I wish it was
scripted but it’s not. Right? But if you look back, if I look
back on the original season I was much harder, much more. I was kicking and screaming and
squealing and making crazy faces actually like now, I think
on the show, I’m much calmer. I’m much centered.
– ‘Cause you matured? – Yeah, a little bit but also
kind of watching myself so many years and seeing
this crazy character. Plus, I’m happier.
I’m married. – Of course, life changes. – I don’t think it’s going that
way, I think it’s the opposite. – I also saw an episode
where you dressed up in character as Andy Warhol. – It was so freeing.
Have you done that ever? – No.
– Oh my god, I disappeared. It was so freeing not
to be Frederik anymore. I blacked out.
I don’t even remember anything. – It was easier
to be Andy Warhol? – Well, I have an obsession too.

be perfect platform so you can cut through. – I have a very
good answer to this. I believe really. I feel excited about this
influencers, influences, influencers, ask, ask, ask. I would go to Instagram search hashtags
olive oil but then cheeses and breads and cakes and
ice creams and I would literally for 11 hours a day, this is your
business you have an imported olive oil, what are you doing? What are you doing 7 PM,
8 PM, 9 PM, 10 PM, 11 PM, 12? What are you doing? You’re doing a lot of
bullshit a lot of times. I would allocate six,
seven hours a day and I would literally you search hashtags
and you find somebody’s account it’s a sous chef in a Kansas
City restaurant that has 813 the followers but the Gmail
account’s there and say look I’m importing amazing olive oil. I’d like to send you a bottle. I’d like to post a picture
of it on Instagram if you have it and then you wait. That person
replies and goes sure. They’ve never had anybody reach
out to them and give them olive oil for free and they’re pumped. Or they write back, yeah
but I’m an influencer. I get $400 a photo
and you’re like that’s not for 800 followers. But it’s just literally,
literally I actually believe that if you have a product like
an olive oil or any product that influencer marketing on
Instagram right now and then and then unbelievably dirty get dirt
under your fingernails grinding one by one, Gmail, Gmail, Gmail,
click and account find their Gmail, Gmail, Gmail
eight, nine, ten hours a day. – I love that. You should come up every fucking day up here we
should talk about this. – Done. – I have so many things now that these poor bastards
to deal with. – Dead. They’re dead.
– I love this. – But the big part of this guys,
the big part of this is to ask. – Can you take this camera away
and just direct the conversation right here.
– No way. (laughter) Nuh-uh it’s easy
to pass on them. You’re the bottleneck.
– Of course. – You’re the bottleneck. – 30 days.

– You know, ask. So many of you are
just not asking. The fear of rejection or the
laziness of the execution is stopping people from winning.

actually have a product and you actually spend 10 hours a day
and I love when people are like, “10 hours a day?” I was running a very large wine
retail business and when Twitter came out, I went
pot committed, all-in and I was spending 10 hours a day. I built my entire brand
from from that ecosystem. It wasn’t mainstream media. It was winning an award
and having the entire press. – Don’t belittle my award.

what 10 hours a day of asking 850 chefs a day on Instagram. 109 chefs will take a
photo with your olive oil, 39 moms that have
a lot of other moms that give a crap
will take a photo with your olive oil and it’s
just the work and the asking. – I love that. Smart. – And it’s free. – Are you building a Trump U?

that and say I’ve got this house, I want to surprise and delight
five influencers on Instagram and have them come and stay
and then what you say is all you have to do has have five photos
tag this, use this hashtag. If you ask every airline in the
world 99.9% of them will say no and one will say yes
because they just talked about influencer marketing
the day before. Now, you can go and Instagram
message somebody who’s got 2 million fans and is a pretty
girl or boy and say you should come and stay at my house
in this beautiful place. I will have your
flight taken care of, you can stay in my place, in return I want 10 social
media pieces of content, tag this. Game over.

are being used and put out way more content. More content.

business model that’s recurring. It’s I get a wedding,
I shoot it, I get money. So how would you scale? First and foremost, if I’m a
wedding photographer, one of the first moves I would do is
very similar to the advice that I gave to designers, immediately
I would layer a tier of Snapchat filter capabilities. I believe every modern wedding
35 and under in America in the next 18 months is
gonna have a Snapchat filter. It’s going to be a big
thing like Karen and Rick. That thing. I would do modern marketing. One, I would go triple in,
quadruple in, all-in uploading all your photos five, seven a
day get approval do your thing on Instagram and
learn all 15 hashtags that matter on Instagram. The five most popular ones,
the five medium ones and five long tail ones
like #HamptonsWedding. You know, #RockawayWeddings. Your area that you shoot in. There is always that hall, that place that everybody gets married at using
that name and weddings. 15 hashtags against 5 to 7
photos every single day on Instagram, I think will
lead to tremendous business. The other thing that I would do
is I would try to guest blog on wedding sites about Instagram
and Snapchat because again if you’re watching my show you’re kind of aware of
these things, right? Use modern social creative as your linchpin to your
actual business. If you think about being a
photographer for weddings as a secondary thing and you think
about being great in Snapchat and Instagram around the wedding
industry, using it and then commentating on it you will
create a much bigger awareness funnel and then people are like,
“Oh, I want to use that girl, “that guy. They’re good and
Snapchat and Instagram and “wedding photos.
It’s 2016, 2017.” I would hustle. I would work. What I just said took work. You like that one, Andy? It’s real. Work three more, four more hours
a day to do it I just told you and amazing things happened. You know how many people are
like “Oh miraculously, I made “$500 this week on eBay because
instead of drinking beers on my “porch and watching
Thunder-Warriors I went in my “garage or when garage
sale-ing and I sold stuff.” Staphon smiled because he
watched all of Thunder-Warriors. – [Staphon] I sure did.
(laughter) – That’s why has $500
less in his pocket. But he has the memories
and enjoyed himself. – [Staphon] It was a great game.

happens all the time. Remember when Uber
changed it’s logo? I think Uber’s new logo is
way worse than it’s old one. But that’s one man’s
subjective opinion. Even though all four
of you shook your head. Do you like the
Instagram one better now? No, no.
– [Garrett] Yeah. – Yeah, got it.
Me neither but whatever. Nobody gives a crap. If anybody still today still
cares about the Instagram design change then they don’t realize
that Instagram is a business and not a museum. In the context that I come from
if you’re making art that you want debated for the rest
of time it really matters. If you are talking about
business everybody complains about logo changes on
sports teams pro, con, logo changes of apps pro, con. It’s a fun thing to talk
about but if you noticed I got bombarded about it on social and
I didn’t even answer anybody’s question about it because I
didn’t even want to respect the question because for me from
a business standpoint it has 0.00000 impact on
Instagram’s business. Now the UI and UX if it makes
people stay on it longer, engage with that it longer, that has
huge impact but the logo itself as a matter of fact it does
have impact I’m not pooh-poohing design.
I believe in the design. For example, I think
I’m using Instagram less. The first week just because my
eye didn’t recognize the logo as much I hit it less times. Not even kidding. But I’m a focus group of one. I think net-net on a 60, 90,
100 day term, it doesn’t matter. I’m already back to my
normal usage on Instagram. It can be an issue but
I think a lot of time press over engages it. For example, when the Gap
changed it’s logo and that was a whole to do and they changed
back or when people have to do that a lot of times is
more about the press and the perception and then the
stock price more so than what’s actually happening
in user behavior. But sometimes it
could be a change. I don’t over, I think a name and
a logo can always be trumped by the quality of the product. Even bad press. When Uber’s getting
all that bad press. My friends, “I feel bad
what Uber is doing,” and they’re take an Uber
while they’re saying it. I’m a big fan of
actions over words. All the people that I hate the
Instagram logo but are using it .3 times more today
than they did a week ago, what does that then mean? It’s like saying you’re moving
to Canada if you don’t like the president and then not moving
which is what basically all of my extremist friends on the
Republican and Democratic side have done of the last 16 years. Everybody moved to Canada during
Bush every move to Canada during Obama and so far
nobody moved to Canada. Because you’re full of shit. And that’s just a higher
level conversation of the logo. What does it mean?
I don’t know. A lot of people like to
say things on social media. I like to know what you actually

from you on this point. As a marketer, how to involve
our members to spread the no gambling cause so to
reach more and more people. Thanks a lot. You rock. – The no gambling cause. Italy has great food and great
women but a gambling problem. – And so how do we? – How do you advance
the no gambling cause? – Matteo wants me to help him
do a marketing campaign to stop people from gambling? – [India] Basically. – Because he thinks
gambling is ruining Italy. – [India] Yes. – The food and the
girls part is fine but the gambling is a problem? – [India] Yes. – And so he wants to create
a marketing campaign to stop gambling? – [India He just wants to
know your thoughts would be to advance the
no gambling cause. Any cause regardless of what,
by the way I like gambling. Any cause’s expansion
has to do the right creative in the right medium. To me, if he’s got a lot of
passion to stop the gambling cause there’s a very smart
strategy tying in what we’re doing here to go younger. Usually the thing that you need
to do to stop the movement is to go younger, it’s really no
different than Facebook and Snapchat even, the
generational differences. The way you get people to
stop using drugs or drinking and driving and all the things that
have happened in propaganda in the US to stop things that
people were concerned about was you’ve got to win the youth
culture around that subject matter and then let it mature. So I think Matteo and the people
in Italy that want to stop the gambling culture in that
country should be looking more aggressively toward
Snapchat and Instagram. Two platforms that are
doing extremely well in their country. Anything to add youngsters, I
know that’s kind of a left-field question, I’m not sure
where India was going with that strategy. – [India] Well,
